Fintan Foy

Chief Executive Officer, ICGP

Fintan joined the Irish College of GPs as Chief Executive Officer in February 2017. Prior to his current role, he was Chief Executive Officer of the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (CAI) from May 2011 to January 2017. His earlier career includes 18 years at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), where he held senior management roles across undergraduate and postgraduate levels in respect of the College’s activities, both at home and internationally.
Fintan has been an active member of the Forum of Postgraduate Training Bodies, serving as Chair of the International Medical Graduate Training Committee (2013–2016) and Secretary to the Forum (2015–2017). In 2015, he was appointed as a government nominee to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, where he chaired both the Professional Competence Committee and the Business Transformation Committee, overseeing the development of the Society’s registration and online systems. Since 2018, Fintan has been a Board Member and Company Secretary of Polio Survivors ireland. During his tenure at the Irish College of GPs, the College assumed full responsibility for GP training from the HSE, leading to increased staffing and funding, and major governance and structural reforms. The College has also established an extensive overseas network, including a four-year GP training programme in Malaysia in partnership with RCSI/UCD/iheed, and in 2022, under Fintan’s leadership, the College launched it’s 3-year strategy – Navigating the Future of General Practice 2023–2026. He currently serves as a Board Member of the Dublin Dental University Hospital, appointed by the Minister for Health in October 2023 for a four-year term.
