Dr. Michael Twomey

Michael is a healthcare innovator and clinical research expert currently leading HIHI’s national clinical evaluation programme and spearheads its artificial intelligence initiatives, including the flagship HIHI.ai 2025 call, which connects cutting-edge AI technologies with real-world healthcare settings. With a PhD focused on digital health and memory recall in cystic fibrosis care, Michael brings deep academic insight to the practical challenges of healthcare innovation. He is a regular contributor to Ireland’s health tech ecosystem—most recently showcasing Irish AI neonatal diagnostic startups at WHO Europe. An experienced entrepreneur, Michael has co-founded (including I Know Me Ltd) and advised multiple ventures across digital health, medtech, and FemTech. His work spans commercial strategy, regulatory alignment, and clinician-led innovation—ensuring new technologies are evidence-based, scalable, and patient-centred. His research interests include health innovation, design thinking, and stakeholder empowerment through information.
